Mum and Dad
This page tells the story of my parents lives prior to meeting and their marriage
Dad - Henry Leslie Williams
26.12.1919 - 29.9.2013

After attending school at Tregarth, I went to the County School at Bethesda, walking the distance most days, over the river bridge at Coetmor and along the main A5 road. The traffic was not very heavy in the early thirties. We walked in gangs of three and four, sometimes on our own. We carried our own sandwiches and a cup of tea would cost us a penny in the local cafe.

I went to Lampeter in 1938 and graduated with a second class in 1941, which allowed me to go to St. Michael's College, Llandaff for my theology. The college was bombed and we 'evacuated' to St. David's in Pembrokeshire. Having been confirmed at Bangor Cathedral some years before, I was ordained there in September 1943 and took my first evensong with Wheldon at Nantwich on the following Sunday, September 25th. My first curacy was at Aberdovey followed by a couple of years at St.Mary•s Bangor, where I met Elsie.

Then I spent a couple of years as a chaplain on HMS Conway, before moving to another curacy at St. Mary Handbridge. Elsie's mother was very ill at the time, and, sadly, died on June 1st 1949. We got married on September 24th at St.Marys Bangor. Johann and her sister Joan were also married at the same service. We moved in 1953 to Barnston and stayed there until 1984.

Mum - Elsie Marie Evans
6.3.1920 - 18.3.2002

Mum was born in 49, Fountain Street Bangor, She attended Hirael Infant School from 1925-1927, followed by Garth School 1927 to 1930, St Mary's Church School 1930 to 31 and finally Bangor County School for Girls from 1931 to 1937.

While she was growing up the family moved to18 Seriol Road and then 42 Dean Street, all in Bangor. After school mum worked as a book keeper at Hughie Edwards and Partners at 251 High Street Bangor. Both Mum and her sister Joan left their jobs to nurse their mother when she was seriously ill, prior to their joint wedding on the 24th September 1949. Unlike Dad, Mum didn't leave Bangor at all until they moved to Handbridge in Chester when they were married. She did however seem to have a lot of shorter trips as you can see in the video !

Elsie attended Garth and St.Mary•s Schools in Bangor, before passing the Scholarship Entrance Examination to the Bangor County School for Girls. She left School after her matriculation and joined firm of Accountants, Hughie Edwards and Co. There she remained until 1949 when she got married to a very famous person !!!!!!!. Unable to join the forces through an eyesight defect , she did a great deal of work with the ARP etc in Bangor, during the War years. She, was, also, extremely kind to her mother, who was very ill for several months before she ultimately died in the summer of 1949.
